Minutes of the City of Crescent Regular Council Meeting

Monday, March 9th, 2026

Meeting called to order at 7:00p.m. by Mayor Chuck Hildreth. Council members present: Aldrich, Flott, Hargens, Powers and Schmidt. Fire Chief Peterson present.

Move guest to front. Motion by Flott to approve, seconded by Schmidt; Aldrich, Hargens, Powers; all ayes. Motion carried.

GUEST

Mark Shoemaker, candidate for Pott. Co. Supervisor addressed Council and audience. Shared his background and goals for Pott. Co.

Renewal of Annual Policies and Proceduresax balance included. Motion by Hargens to approve, seconded by Flott; Aldrich, Powers, Schmidt; all ayes. Motion carried.

Sewer refund for 111 E. Florence since water was shut off. Motion by Flott to approve, seconded by Hargens; Aldrich, Powers, Schmidt; all ayes. Motion carried.

DISCUSSION

Multiple bank interest rates have been compared. Will finalize decision at April council meeting.

DISCUSSION – BOD Levels in Water

BOD levels in water system are high once again. Will do additional water tests to pinpoint the cause.

REMINDER – Tax Levy Hearing

Tax Levy Hearing set for March 30th at 6:30p. Will set Budget Adoption Date on March 30th at 6:45p.

FYI – A group NIMS Course

A group NIMS Course schedule to be supplied by Pott. Co. EMS in next few weeks.

FYI – City Park Dedication Ceremony

City Park Dedication Ceremony will be set for this summer/fall.

FYI – 2026 Iowa Rural Summit

2026 Iowa Rural Summit scheduled for April 9th-10th.

FYI – Comprehensive Plan Meeting

Comprehensive Plan Meeting – Tuesday, March 10th, 6pm.

MAYOR

Water tower repairs will begin end of April. Moving WWTF to far northwest corner of lagoon area in order to save a considerable amount of money. Plant will be shipped last week of this month. New cover for salt shed will be put up next week. Ball shed is done. Field is currently too wet to use. Worked on blocking continued mouse damage at lift station generator. Hired Western Utilities to add dead heads to water line and help find water line at the park.

Report submitted. Will keep ball diamond closed till ground dries.

PARK BOARD

No Report.

CVFD

20 calls for January, 49 so far this year. Helped Underwood with several fires. Only 3 calls at the Ski Hills this year.

PUBLIC FORUM

Kris Spratt has natural stone if city needs any.
